Isolated from the rest of Albania, in the midst of wonderful mountains, Peshkopia is in the east of Albania and you visit easily on foot. The town is set between lovely rolling hills with Mali Korabit, Albania’s highest, towering in the background. It extends 185 km from Tirana and 21 km distance from the customs point of Bllata in Maqellara.
In the city you can visit the Ottoman houses in the old quarter and the local bazaar where to try the cheese typical of Dibra. The cultural center in rruga Elez Isuf Ndreu hosts permanent exhibitions and temporary exhibitions. Out of the city is located the Llixhat, at the area of the Gorge of Bellova, a famous spa complex: at 1989 thea modern complex was built, with 50 baths and therapy rooms for special treatment. Near the thermal complex there are some little hotels and someones luxurious.
From Peshkopia is easy to reach the National Park of Lura with its beautiful lakes, taking the road that goes toward Rresheni. The National Park of Lura is in the eastern side of the mountain massive of “Kunora e Lures“; its vegetation is miscellaneous multi color flower and full of coniferous trees. The camping is a pleasure but it’s better to be informed about the area you would stay.
In the County District there’s the disctrict of Dibra, one of the most attractive in Albania for tourists which love the adventure and different extreme sports. Dibra has 40 monuments of nature, with the meadows of Korabi mountain, the Outfall of Mall Lura and seven lakes of Lura. You can walk among the wonderful nature, riding horses or climbing. The roads of the Lura Lake aren’t easily accessible between May and November, however the roads requirs 4WD cars.
Getting there: Buses from Tirana in the early morning near the train station to the main square, which lasted about 5 hours. From Kukes a minibus stops in the suburbs.
